Course Learning Objectives:

  • Distinguish reconstructable (reducible) from non-constructable (non-reducible) fractures and describe the treatment strategies for each.  
  • Compare & contrast the following: 
    • Compression, Neutralization & Bridging plates 
    • Conventional vs. Locking Plating systems 
  • Properly perform the following interfragmentary compression fixation techniques: 
    • Full cerclage wire 
    • Lag screws 
  • Properly perform DIRECT reduction with ABSOLUTE stability and INDIRECT reduction with RELATIVE stability as dictated by diaphyseal fracture configurations on the: 
    • Radius 
    • Femur 
    • Tibia 
  • Describe the indications for and perform the technique of autogenous cancellous bone grafting
