Dr. Jane Shaw

Jane Shaw is an expert in veterinarian-client-patient interactions, Professor, University Distinguished Teaching Scholar, and Director of Veterinary Communication for Professional Excellence at CSU. She received a DVM from Michigan State in 1994 and PhD in Epidemiology at the University of Guelph in 2004. Shaw received the 2018 Bustad Award for enhancing relationships between people and pets. In 2011, she was CVMA’s Outstanding Faculty of the Year. In 2018, she was the first recipient of the Academy for Healthcare Communication Teaching Excellence Award for advancing the field of health communication. Shaw leads the communication curriculum at CSU, focusing on skills to enhance partnership with colleagues and clients. Her research analyzes videotaped conversations between veterinarians, clients and animal patients. She conducts communication workshops at veterinary conferences nationally and internationally, and consults with veterinary practices to enhance teamwork, continuity of care, and client service.
