Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this course you will be able to:
- Diagnose CrCL disease, distinguish it from CdCL rupture, and rule-out common co-morbidities that contra-indicate the Lateral Fabellar Suture (LFS) Extracapsular Suture stabilization technique.
- Educate your client re: all treatment options for CrCL disease.
- Describe the risk factors for medial meniscal (MM) injury, visualize & probe the menisci and explain why the caudal body of the MM is prone to injury with CrCL disease
- Perform LFS ExCap stabilization including confident placement of a lateral fabellar suture and identification of quasi-isometric tibial anchor points.
- Outline and justify a 3-phase postoperative convalescent care plan.
- Distinguish lateral patellar luxation (LPL) from medial patellar luxation (MPL) using knowledge of breed predispositions, common conformations & gait patterns, and palpation tips.
- Provide simple evidence-based answers for your common client questions.
- Use an evidence-based approach to case selection such that successful outcomes are achieved and patients prone to complications are identified and avoided.
- Perform cartilage-sparing trochleoplasties and tibial crest transpositions using surgical tips & tricks not found in the textbooks.
- Describe a postoperative convalescent care & monitoring plan for patellar luxation surgery.
