The Structural and Functional Assessment of the Canine Spine

This course provides an in-depth, guided evaluation of the functional anatomy, biomechanics and manual assessment of the canine spine using soft tissue and chiropractic evaluation techniques. Upon successful completion of this course, you will have the working knowledge needed to fully assess the structural and functional aspects of the canine axial skeleton. In addition, the course material will help to improve your physical examination skills, clinical decision making processes, and increase your awareness of the role of the axial skeleton in activities of daily living and compensatory mechanisms related to chronic pain and lameness issues in dogs.

The Pregnant Mare: Diagnosis, Complications, and Dystocia

The goal of the course is to provide up-to-date, clinically relevant information on pregnancy diagnosis, problems of early pregnancy, management of twins, complications of mid- to late term pregnancy, care of the pregnant mare, prediction of foaling, normal foaling, induction of labor, evaluation and management of dystocia and complications of the post-partum mare including options for management of retained fetal membranes. Colorado State University has a long history of applied research and clinical service in the field of equine reproduction as well as a dedication to continuing education for horse owners and veterinarians.

The Problem Mare

The goal of the course is to provide a broad review of reproductive issues in the non-pregnant mare. The course will start with an overview of techniques for reproductive evaluation of the problem mare and subsequently transition to discussions of issues with ovarian function, oviductal problems, uterine abnormalities, problems with the cervix, vagina and vestibule, and finish with discussions on behavioral abnormalities and finally problems associated with the mammary gland and lactation.

Equine Embryo Transfer

The goal of the course is to provide up-to-date, clinically relevant information on equine embryo transfer. Lectures will include donor mare management, embryo collection procedures, embryo evaluation, recipient mare management, the art of transfer of embryos, cooled transport of embryos, problems encountered in equine embryo transfer, and embryo vitrification (cryopreservation). Colorado State University has a long history of research, clinical service and continuing education in the field of equine reproduction and more specifically in the area of embryo transfer.

Foaling and Foal Care

The goal of the course is to provide all breeding farm/ranch personnel that are responsible for care of pregnant mares, foaling out mares and care of the newborn foal with guidelines for normal events, when to call for additional on-farm help and when to call for veterinary assistance.
