Course Description

This course is designed for: ACVS Diplomates and Residents

You know the feeling … “I’m resecting a mass, but in the back of my mind I’m worried about getting it closed. Complete excision versus wound closure … ugh.”  It’s an ugly feeling that we can help you with!  Better yet, the skills you learn here will help you with traumatic wound closures too!

In this intensive 2-day course, lectures will be followed by direct application of the surgical techniques in our cadaveric labs.  Our instructors will support you so that you gain the most from each modular training session.  You’ll learn simple and more complex reconstructive procedures for wounds involving the head (face, mouth, pinna), trunk (skin, thoracic and abdominal walls) and extremities (skin loss, pad reconstruction) including:

  • Local Skin Flaps
  • Tension Relieving Techniques
  • Axial Pattern Flaps
  • Free Grafts
  • Skin Stretching Closure Techniques
  • Muscle and Myocutaneous Flaps
  • Facial Reconstructive Surgery
  • Nasal Reconstructive Surgery
  • Paw/Pad Reconstructive Surgery
  • Reconstructive Surgery of the Pinna

You’ll return to your practice confident that you have the skills to get that traumatic or mass resection wound closed.  Won’t that feel nice … you’ve got this!

Since our launch in 2019, CSUVetCE at the CSU Translational Medicine Institute has proudly worked closely with ACVS as a member of the ACVS Educational Partners Program and looks forward to the participating in the future ACVS Educational Affiliate program to be launched in 2026.
