This is a two-day course that aims to provide the audience a thorough review of catheter-based therapies for heart disease in animals with congenital heart disease. The course is composed of alternating lectures and laboratories utilizing high fidelity simulators (ANGIOMENTOR), 3D printed heart models, and recorded cases. Topics include equipment and vascular access in the cardiac catheterization laboratory, basic and advanced techniques for occlusion of the patent arterial duct, balloon dilation and stenting therapies for stenotic valves and cor triatriatum, and closure of septal defects. This course is appropriate for cardiologists-in-training or practitioners who wish to improve their understanding of and technical abilities in cardiac catheterization. Lectures and laboratories are taught by veterinary cardiologists with fellowship training in interventional cardiology.

CSU VetCE is an ACVS educational partner. This course can be used toward maintenance of ACVS re-certification.

Dr. Brianna Potter

Brianna Potter completed a cardiology residency and two-year interventional cardiac fellowship at Colorado State University. She is a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine in Cardiology and is currently an Assistant Professor at Colorado State University. Her interests include interventional therapies for congenital and acquired heart disease and advanced imaging.

Dr. Caroline Sloan

Caroline Sloan obtained her undergraduate degree from Pepperdine University and her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the University of California, Davis. She completed a small animal rotating internship at VCA West Los Angeles Animal Hospital and a residency in Cardiology at Colorado State University.

Caroline worked in private practice in Southern California for two years and is excited to be back in Colorado working with the excellent cardiology team at CSU and enjoying all the wonderful adventures Colorado has to offer. 

Dr. Kursten Pierce

Kursten Pierce is currently an Assistant Professor in Cardiology at North Carolina State University. Following her cardiology residency at Tufts University she completed a two-year fellowship in interventional cardiology at Colorado State University. Her interests include teaching, the diagnosis and management of congenital heart disease, exotics cardiology, cardiac biomarkers, and minimally-invasive fluoroscopically guided interventions.

Participant Cancellation Policy: Course attendees can cancel their registration for an in-person course according to the following

  • Cancellation more than 60 days prior: Full refund minus 10% processing fee or 100% Future Transfer Credit (FTC).
  • Cancellation 30-60 days prior: 50% refund or 75% FTC.
  • Cancellations within 30 days: 50% FTC only. Cancellations due to illness or other unforeseen circumstances will be considered on an individual basis.
  • Future Transfer Credits can be applied to any course within 365 days of the cancelled course.

Course Cancellation Policy: Course cancellations due to low registration numbers or other circumstances may be announced 35 days or more prior to the course. Full refund of the course registration or 100% Future Transfer Credit (FTC) will apply. We are unable to reimburse for travel expenses incurred.
