Small Animal Thoracoscopy for Specialists

Dr. Eric Monnet graduated from veterinary school in Maisons Alfort, France in 1985.  He worked for four years in a Paris private practice performing small animal medicine and surgery.  In 1994, Dr. Monnet completed a small animal surgery residency at Colorado State University and concurrently finished a Master of Sciences degree.  In 1997, Dr. Monnet received his PhD in Clinical Sciences studying cardiac efficiency in dogs. In 2003, he became a fellow of the American Heart Association.  In 2017, he became a founding fellow the ACVS MIS Small Animal fellowship. Dr. Monnet is currently a professor in small animal surgery (General Surgery at Colorado State University.  He has authored more than 100 articles and 25 chapters in various surgical textbooks.  Dr. Monnet was the founding president in 2001-2003 of the Society for Veterinary Soft Tissue Surgery and in 2002-2004 of the Veterinary Endoscopy Society.  He is the editor of the textbook: “Disease Mechanisms in Small Animal Surgery” (3^rd edition).  He is also the editor of the textbook “Small Animal Soft Tissue Surgery” (1^st edition), the textbook “Small Animal Thoracic Surgery” (2nd edition), and the textbook “Gastrointestinal Surgical Techniques” (1st edition).

Dr. Marvel received her undergraduate degree from Harvard University and then went on to obtain her DVM from the University of Wisconsin in 2009.  She completed a rotating internship in small animal medicine and surgery at Colorado State University.  She stayed at Colorado State University and completed a residency in small animal surgery in 2013.  Following her surgical residency she completed a fellowship in Surgical Oncology at the Flint Animal Cancer Center at Colorado State University.  She achieved board certification from the American College of Veterinary Surgeons (DACVS-SA) in 2014. She is currently an Assistant Professor in the General Surgery department at Colorado State University.

Dr. William Culp graduated from the University of Pennsylvania, School of Veterinary Medicine. After graduation from veterinary school, he remained at the University of Pennsylvania to complete a rotating internship in small animal medicine and surgery followed by a surgical residency. Dr. Culp is board-certified as a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons, and he has pursued additional training in cancer surgery at the Colorado State University Animal Cancer Center, during which he completed a Surgical Oncology Fellowship. Additionally, he has completed an Interventional Radiology/Endoscopy Fellowship at the Animal Medical Center in New York City. Dr. Culp was selected as an ACVS Founding Fellow of Surgical Oncology in 2012, an ACVS Founding Fellow of Minimally Invasive Surgery in 2017 and an ACVS Founding Fellow of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in 2021. Dr. Culp is currently a member of the Soft Tissue Surgery service at the University of California - Davis. He is interested in many areas of soft tissue surgery, but his major focuses are surgical oncology and interventional radiology.

Dr. Nicole Buote received her BS in Biotechnology from WPI and Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Tufts University Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine. She then completed a rotating internship at Angell Animal Medical Center in Boston and a surgical internship at the Dallas Veterinary Surgery Center. Dr. Buote then completed a surgery residency at the Animal Medical Center in New York City, achieving board certification in 2010. After residency, Dr. Buote worked in private practice for 11 years in southern California, as a staff surgeon and then the Chief of the surgery department. She joined Cornell University in 2020 as an Associate Professor of Soft Tissue Surgery in the Department of Clinical Sciences. Her research focuses on minimally invasive surgery for animals, surgical robotics applications and interventional radiologic techniques.  She is a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons, the founder of the Association of Women Veterinary Surgeons and an ACVS Founding Fellow of Minimally Invasive Surgery. Dr. Buote has published over 20 book chapters, is the editor of a small animal wound management textbook and has written or collaborated on over 60 articles on a variety of surgical topics.
