Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery for the Small Animal Surgeon

Dr. Pavletic is a 1974 graduate of the University of Illinois. Dr. Pavletic completed his Internship and Surgical Residency at Angell AMC in 1977. Dr. Pavletic is a 1981 Diplomate of the ACVS. He is currently the Director of Surgery at Boston’s Angell Animal Medical Center. Dr. Pavletic has published well over 100 surgical articles to date and is the author of the 4th edition of “Atlas of Small Animal Wound Management and Reconstructive Surgery” (2018, Wiley-Blackwell). He is currently working on the 5th edition of this textbook. Dr. Pavletic was the 2007 President of the ACVS and Chairman of the Board of Regents in 2008. He is the recipient of several awards, including the Bourgelat Award presented by the BSAVA in 1996; the MSPCA Mary Mitchell Humane Award in 2014; the ACVS Founder’s Award for Career Achievement in 2016; and the Irwin Small Distinguished Alumni Award from the University of Illinois in 2010.

A Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons, Dr. Pike has undergone broad training leading to clinical interests in both orthopedic and soft tissue surgery. His soft tissue interests include wound management, reconstructive surgery, and surgical oncology. His orthopedic interests include arthroscopy, joint preservation, and total joint arthroplasty. Dr. Pike has over 20 years of board-certified experience. He is the president of the Association for Veterinary Orthopedic Research and Education (https://www.avore.org). Dr. Pike is a graduate of the Atlantic Veterinary College, University of Prince Edward Island, Canada where he obtained his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. Following three years in a mixed animal practice, Dr. Pike completed internships in medicine / surgery at the Veterinary Medical and Surgical Group, Ventura, California and anesthesia / critical care at Tufts University School of Veterinary Medicine, North Grafton, Massachusetts. He completed his residency in small animal surgery at Tufts University/Angell Memorial Animal Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts (2003) and obtained board certification in 2004. Dr. Pike is an invited laboratory instructor and guest lecturer for the American College of Veterinary Surgeons, the Veterinary Arthrology and Arthroscopy Association and the American Animal Hospital Association. He is a reviewer for several peer-reviewed veterinary journals and has authored and co-authored book chapters, manuscripts, and veterinary textbooks with an emphasis on hepatobiliary disease, wound management, and Minimally Invasive Plate Osteosynthesis.

Dr. Eric Monnet graduated from veterinary school in Maisons Alfort, France in 1985.  He worked for four years in a Paris private practice performing small animal medicine and surgery.  In 1994, Dr. Monnet completed a small animal surgery residency at Colorado State University and concurrently finished a Master of Sciences degree.  In 1997, Dr. Monnet received his PhD in Clinical Sciences studying cardiac efficiency in dogs. In 2003, he became a fellow of the American Heart Association.  In 2017, he became a founding fellow the ACVS MIS Small Animal fellowship. Dr. Monnet is currently a professor in small animal surgery (General Surgery at Colorado State University.  He has authored more than 100 articles and 25 chapters in various surgical textbooks.  Dr. Monnet was the founding president in 2001-2003 of the Society for Veterinary Soft Tissue Surgery and in 2002-2004 of the Veterinary Endoscopy Society.  He is the editor of the textbook: “Disease Mechanisms in Small Animal Surgery” (3^rd edition).  He is also the editor of the textbook “Small Animal Soft Tissue Surgery” (1^st edition), the textbook “Small Animal Thoracic Surgery” (2nd edition), and the textbook “Gastrointestinal Surgical Techniques” (1st edition).
