This course is designed for primary care veterinarians of all experience levels.

Urinary problems in dogs and cats, whether they are acute, chronic, or genetic, can diminish the health and happiness of patients and their owners. We understand that urinary surgery can be stressful. If urine trouble feels like ‘you’re in trouble’ inside your operating room, let this course get you back in the flow of things. That’s why we designed this course—to help you develop & refine new surgical skills to ease your anxieties with future cases. You’ll perform nephrectomy, cystotomy, and canine & feline urethrostomies.

After this course, you’ll feel confident in performing surgery in the urinary system, including surgical planning, execution, and troubleshooting unexpected challenges.

Dr. Eric Monnet graduated from veterinary school in Maisons Alfort, France in 1985.  He worked for four years in a Paris private practice performing small animal medicine and surgery.  In 1994, Dr. Monnet completed a small animal surgery residency at Colorado State University and concurrently finished a Master of Sciences degree.  In 1997, Dr. Monnet received his PhD in Clinical Sciences studying cardiac efficiency in dogs. In 2003, he became a fellow of the American Heart Association.  In 2017, he became a founding fellow the ACVS MIS Small Animal fellowship. Dr. Monnet is currently a professor in small animal surgery (General Surgery at Colorado State University.  He has authored more than 100 articles and 25 chapters in various surgical textbooks.  Dr. Monnet was the founding president in 2001-2003 of the Society for Veterinary Soft Tissue Surgery and in 2002-2004 of the Veterinary Endoscopy Society.  He is the editor of the textbook: “Disease Mechanisms in Small Animal Surgery” (3rd edition).  He is also the editor of the textbook “Small Animal Soft Tissue Surgery” (1st edition), the textbook “Small Animal Thoracic Surgery” (2nd edition), and the textbook “Gastrointestinal Surgical Techniques” (1st edition).
Sarah Marvel

Dr. Sarah Marvel

MS, DVM, DACVS-SA, ACVS Fellow, Surgical Oncology ACVS Fellow, Minimally Invasive Surgery (Small Animal Soft Tissue Surgery), Assistant Professor, Small Animal Surgery

Dr. Marvel received her undergraduate degree from Harvard University and then went on to obtain her DVM from the University of Wisconsin in 2009.  She completed a rotating internship in small animal medicine and surgery at Colorado State University.  She stayed at Colorado State University and completed a residency in small animal surgery in 2013.  Following her surgical residency she completed a fellowship in Surgical Oncology at the Flint Animal Cancer Center at Colorado State University.  She achieved board certification from the American College of Veterinary Surgeons (DACVS-SA) in 2014. She is currently an Assistant Professor in the General Surgery department at Colorado State University.

Pedro Boscan

Dr. Pedro Boscan

Dr. Boscan earned his DVM degree in 1996 from veterinary school in Venezuela. He then completed a small animal anesthesia internship at Utrecht University in the Netherlands, followed by an MSc in neuroscience at the University of Andalusia in Spain, with a strong emphasis on pain processing. He earned his PhD from the University of Bristol in the United Kingdom, where his research focused on the central nervous system integration of pain, cardiovascular, and respiratory systems. He completed a veterinary anesthesia residency at UC Davis and later served as a clinical fellow in anesthesia and critical care at UC Davis for one year. He has been a faculty member in anesthesia at CSU for the past 18 years. He is currently a professor of anesthesia and the service chief at CSU.
Dr. Elissa Randall

Dr. Elissa Randall

Elissa Randall got her DVM from the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine.  She completed a Diagnostic Imaging Residency at Colorado State University, followed by three years as faculty at Michigan State University.  Elissa was lucky to be able to return to Colorado and CSU and has been faculty there since 2008.  She enjoys all aspects and all modalities of small animal imaging.  Areas of research interest include sentinel lymph node mapping, imaging cancer with PETCT, and other aspects of oncologic imaging.

Participant Cancellation Policy: Course attendees can cancel their registration for an in-person course according to the following schedule:

  • More than 60 days prior: Full refund or 100% Future Transfer Credit (FTC).
  • 30-60 days prior: 50% refund or 100% FTC.
  • Fewer than 30 days prior: 75% FTC only. No cash refunds are permitted within 30 days of the event.
    To ensure fairness and consistency for all attendees, this policy applies universally to all cancellations, including those caused by illness or unforeseen circumstances.
  • Future Transfer Credits can be applied to any course within 365 days of the cancelled course.

Course Cancellation Policy: Course cancellations due to low registration numbers or other unforeseen program circumstances will be announced 35 days or more prior to the course start date. In this event, a full refund of the course registration or a 100% Future Transfer Credit (FTC) will be provided. CSUVetCE is not responsible for, and will not reimburse, any travel, lodging, or incidental expenses incurred by the participant.
