Course Description
Minimally-invasive surgery (MIS) is the standard of care for many human procedures and is increasingly the expectation of many of our more discerning pet-owning clients in progressive veterinary practices. Now is the time for you to reach for new professional horizons and discover the many advantages of laparoscopic organ biopsy, diagnostic techniques and surgical procedures. Your new skills will distinguish you and your practice within your community!
This course is designed for the inquisitive and motivated veterinarian with little or no experience with laparoscopy. On Day 1, you will receive instruction on instrumentation and basic techniques before beginning your hands-on training on endoscopic trainers within the CSU Translational Medicine Institute’s endoscopy training center. On Day 2, you will perform laparoscopy on canine cadavers. Laparoscopic techniques include tissue biopsy (liver, pancreas, kidney), cholecystocentesis, ovariectomy, cryptorchidectomy and basic laparoscopic-assisted techniques including intestinal biopsy, jejunostomy tube placement, gastropexy, and cystoscopy for bladder stone removal.
Following this course, you’ll be motivated and prepared to perform basic laparoscopic procedures in your practice. Additionally, you’ll be able to register for the laparoscopic ovariectomy course and the laparoscopic-assisted gastropexy course.
As an ACVS sanctioned educational program, this course can be used toward ACVS Diplomate Maintenance of Certification
