Course Description

This course is designed for the inquisitive veterinarian with little to no experience with laparoscopy.

Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS) is the expectation of many of our more discerning pet-owning clients. Now is the time for you to reach for new professional horizons and discover the many advantages of laparoscopic organ biopsy, diagnostic techniques, and surgical procedures.

Day 1 includes instruction on instrumentation and basic techniques before hands-on practice on endoscopic trainers.

On Day 2, you’ll perform laparoscopy on canine cadavers that includes:

Tissue biopsy (liver, pancreas, kidney)
Cholecystocentesis
Ovariectomy
Cryptorchidectomy
Basic laparoscopic-assisted techniques including intestinal biopsy, jejunostomy tube placement, gastropexy, and cystoscopy for bladder stone removal.

Your new skills will distinguish you and your practice within your community–and offer your patients an option with minimal tissue disruption and quicker recovery.

Following this course, you’ll be prepared to perform basic laparoscopic procedures in your practice. Additionally, you’ll be able to register for the laparoscopic ovariectomy course for more advanced training.

Open to technicians to attend with a veterinarian from their practice (1 technician per veterinarian)

Access to this course will expire one year (365 days) from the course’s end date. After this period, users will no longer have access to course materials, resources, and any associated content. It is the responsibility of the users to complete the course and download any materials including their course completion certificate.

Instructors

Dr. Eric Monnet

DVM, PhD, DACVS, DECVS

Dr. Eric Monnet graduated from veterinary school in Maisons Alfort, France in 1985. He worked for four years in a Paris private practice performing small animal medicine and surgery. In 1994, Dr. Monnet completed a small animal surgery residency at Colorado State University and concurrently finished a Master of Sciences degree. In 1997, Dr. Monnet received his PhD in Clinical Sciences studying cardiac efficiency in dogs. In 2003, he became a fellow of the American Heart Association. In 2017, he became a founding fellow the ACVS MIS Small Animal fellowship. Dr. Monnet is currently a professor in small animal surgery (General Surgery at Colorado State University. He has authored more than 100 articles and 25 chapters in various surgical textbooks. Dr. Monnet was the founding president in 2001-2003 of the Society for Veterinary Soft Tissue Surgery and in 2002-2004 of the Veterinary Endoscopy Society. He is the editor of the textbook: “Disease Mechanisms in Small Animal Surgery” (3^rdedition). He is also the editor of the textbook “Small Animal Soft Tissue Surgery” (1^stedition), the textbook “Small Animal Thoracic Surgery” (2nd edition), and the textbook “Gastrointestinal Surgical Techniques” (1st edition).

Dr. Sarah Marvel

MS, DVM, DACVS-SA, ACVS Fellow, Surgical Oncology ACVS Fellow, Minimally Invasive Surgery (Small Animal Soft Tissue Surgery), Assistant Professor, Small Animal Surgery

Dr. Marvel received her undergraduate degree from Harvard University and then went on to obtain her DVM from the University of Wisconsin in 2009. She completed a rotating internship in small animal medicine and surgery at Colorado State University. She stayed at Colorado State University and completed a residency in small animal surgery in 2013. Following her surgical residency she completed a fellowship in Surgical Oncology at the Flint Animal Cancer Center at Colorado State University. She achieved board certification from the American College of Veterinary Surgeons (DACVS-SA) in 2014. She is currently an Assistant Professor in the General Surgery department at Colorado State University.

Participant Cancellation Policy: Course attendees can cancel their registration for an in-person course according to the following schedule:

More than 60 days prior: Full refund or 100% Future Transfer Credit (FTC).
30-60 days prior: 50% refund or 100% FTC.
Fewer than 30 days prior: 75% FTC only. No cash refunds are permitted within 30 days of the event.
To ensure fairness and consistency for all attendees, this policy applies universally to all cancellations, including those caused by illness or unforeseen circumstances.
Future Transfer Credits can be applied to any course within 365 days of the cancelled course.

Course Cancellation Policy: Course cancellations due to low registration numbers or other unforeseen program circumstances will be announced 35 days or more prior to the course start date. In this event, a full refund of the course registration or a 100% Future Transfer Credit (FTC) will be provided. CSUVetCE is not responsible for, and will not reimburse, any travel, lodging, or incidental expenses incurred by the participant.
