Optimal execution of the perfect TPLO is a team sport, and your support of this cutting-edge technique is essential to the success of your team and your patients. In this course, you’ll participate in the veterinarians’ lectures and labs where you’ll become familiar with the preoperative assessments, instrumentation, surgical techniques, and postoperative radiograph critique … all of which will make you a valuable member of the TPLO team in your practice!

Open to technicians to attend with a veterinarian from their practice (1 technician per veterinarian)

NOTE: Your DVM should have completed our Complete Introduction to Bone Plating course (or similar formal bone plating training) and have experience with stifle anatomy and the surgical approach to the stifle joint before attending this course.

Access to this course will expire one year (365 days) from the course’s end date. After this period, users will no longer have access to course materials, resources, and any associated content. It is the responsibility of the users to complete the course and download any materials including their course completion certificate.

Course Technology Requirements:

To ensure a smooth learning experience, this course requires basic web navigation skills and proficiency in using a computer to successfully complete. Participants should be comfortable with tasks such as browsing websites, accessing online resources, downloading/saving documents, and navigating through course materials. Instructors

Dr. Ross H. Palmer

DVM, MS, Diplomate ACVS

Dr. Palmer, a native of Kansas, received his BS and DVM degrees from Kansas State University. He completed an internship at The Animal Medical Center in New York City. He received his small animal surgical residency training and an MS degree (Physiology) from the University of Georgia. He is a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons. His veterinary career has spanned both academics (Texas A&M and Colorado State University) and private specialty practice (Silicon Valley/Monterey Bay region of California) as a staff surgeon and as a practice owner. Ross is currently a Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at Colorado State University and the Associate Director of Education at the Translational Medicine Institute. Dr. Palmer seeks to entertain as he educates in order to make learning an enjoyable and memorable experience. He has been an invited speaker at conferences throughout the USA and the world. He was recently named VMX Speaker of the Year. He is the founder of the Complete Course on External Skeletal Fixation educating veterinarians from around the world for 25 years. He’s authored > 50 journal articles and book chapters. He is past President of the Veterinary Orthopedic Society (VOS), editorial board member of Today’s Veterinary Practice, board member of the VOS, World Veterinary Orthopaedic Congress, North American Veterinary Conference and the Veterinary Surgery Journal. Ross’ personal passions include international travel, cycling, hiking, fishing, and relaxing with his family in their family’s “off the grid” island cabin in remote northwestern Ontario, Canada

Dr. Laura Peycke

DVM, MS, DACVS-SA

Dr. Laura Peycke is a Clinical Professor of surgery at TAMU College of Veterinary Medicine. She received her DVM from Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine in 1998. Dr. Peycke completed a small animal surgical residency from Louisiana State University and received her American College of Veterinary Surgeons board certification in 2004. Dr. Peycke joined the Department of Small Animal Clinical Science at the Texas A&M University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2004. Dr. Peycke was hired as a clinical track professor and provides senior clinician support of the orthopedic, soft tissue and general surgery services and teaches veterinary students in these respective disciplines. Dr. Peycke's focus is primarily clinical teaching and clinical service; however, she has been involved in leadership and committee positions in teaching and is involved in continuing education outside of the hospital. Dr. Peycke also received a second specialty board certification from the American College of Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation in 2013. She presently serves as a faculty advisor and as ACVS program director for the small animal surgical residency program at TAMU.

Dr. David Hummel

Dr. David Hummel is board certified by the American College of Veterinary Surgeons. He received a BS in Biology from Virginia Tech and a DVM degree from the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine. After graduating from veterinary school, Dr. Hummel completed a rotating internship at Oradell Animal Hospital in New Jersey, as well as a surgical residency at the University of Illinois. Following his residency, Dr. Hummel returned to the East Coast, where he worked as a staff surgeon at the Veterinary Emergency and Specialty Center in Richmond, Virginia before joining Skylos Sports Medicine/BluePearl. Dr. Hummel has a passion for arthroscopy and minimally invasive orthopedic surgery. He has published several peer-reviewed research articles on topics including total hip replacement, management of long bone fractures and cranial cruciate ligament injury and stifle stabilization. Dr. Hummel is a surgical consultant for the Veterinary Information Network, the largest web-based information service for veterinarians worldwide. Dr. Hummel is also active as a mentor for veterinary students at the VA-MD Regional College of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Hummel thrives on the relationships he forms with his clients and patients and strives to provide the very best care to each patient, and clear communication with every client. Dr. Hummel’s wife Katie is also a veterinarian. They have two children, two dogs, and one cat. When not spending time with his family, Dr. Hummel enjoys fishing, gardening, and woodworking.

Policies

Participant Cancellation Policy: Course attendees can cancel their registration for an in-person course according to the following

Cancellation more than 60 days prior: Full refund or 100% Future Transfer Credit (FTC).
Cancellation 30-60 days prior: 50% refund or 75% FTC.
Cancellations within 30 days: 50% FTC only. Cancellations due to illness or other unforeseen circumstances will be considered on an individual basis.
Future Transfer Credits can be applied to any course within 365 days of the cancelled course.

Course Cancellation Policy: Course cancellations due to low registration numbers or other circumstances may be announced 35 days or more prior to the course. Full refund of the course registration or 100% Future Transfer Credit (FTC) will apply. We are unable to reimburse for travel expenses incurred.
