The Small Animal Thoracoscopy Course is open to ACVS Diplomates and Residents only. The regular course registration fee is $2595. Courtesy of generous sponsorships provided by KARL STORZ Veterinary Endoscopy and Medtronic we are offering $1000 in tuition assistance to a limited number of ACVS Residents for this course (recipients will be determined by lottery selection).

About the course:

Thoracoscopic procedures will be described in the lectures, followed by a laboratory on ventilated canine cadavers. Anesthesia related to minimally invasive surgery (one lung ventilation) will be presented by a board-certified anesthesiologist. Procedures described and performed in the laboratory will include:

  • Thoracic duct ligation.
  • Exploration of pleural space
  • Biopsy
  • Lung lobectomy
  • Induction of one lung ventilation
  • Pericardial window, subtotal pericardectomy and pericardioscopy
  • Resection of the right atrial appendage
